What's in the video
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings in stages between 1937 and 1949 as a sequel to The Hobbit. It's one of the best-selling books ever written. The films followed: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). Twenty years later, Diamond Select launched three series of 7-inch-scale figures based on the films, two per series, each with movie likeness, accessories and a piece of the Sauron Build-A-Figure. The line was designed by Eamon O'Donoghue and sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios.
Every figure comes in a full-color window box showing the figure, accessories and Build-A-Figure part, with Gandalf, Frodo and Sauron pictured on the front. All four main figures have 16 points of articulation: head, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists, waist, legs, knees and ankles.
Series 1
- Gimli: about 6 inches tall (he's a dwarf, after all), with film-accurate detail from his helmet and beard to his armor and a belt that holds his gear. Includes a double-headed axe, two single-headed axes and extra hands for holding them, plus Sauron's head.
- Legolas: about 7 inches tall, with detailed hair, pointed elf ears and a quiver that holds his arrows and long knives. Includes a bow with a real string, three arrows, and Sauron's right arm and leg.
Series 2
- Frodo Baggins: just under 6 inches tall, with detail down to the hair and dirt on his feet. Includes Sting, which fits his scabbard, the Light of Eärendil, and Sauron's torso and cape.
- Nazgûl: the heaviest and tallest of the bunch at over 7 inches, layered in rippled black and gray rags with metallic armor on the hands and feet, and no face at all inside the hood. Includes two swords (one sheathed), a sheathed dagger and Sauron's lower torso.
Bonus: Gollum Deluxe
Gollum comes in a different box with ring-shaped side windows. He stands about 4 inches tall (when he stands up straight), with dirt smudges and detail down to his toes. He includes three interchangeable heads, three pairs of hands (one holding the Ring), two fish and a jagged rock to climb, plus a bonus axe for Gimli, three more arrows for Legolas and the long knives that fit Legolas's quiver.
