Every good story needs more than one part. In Part 2 of this Out of the Box series, Turco unboxes Series 3 of Diamond Select Toys' Lord of the Rings Deluxe Action Figures, Aragorn and a Moria Orc, finally builds the 13-inch Sauron, and opens the Journey to Mordor Previews Exclusive box set with Frodo and Gollum.

What's in the video

Thanks to the books and films, Lord of the Rings collectibles are still going strong 20 years after the first movie. In late 2021, Diamond Select released the third series of its Deluxe Action Figures, with the final pieces needed to build Sauron. The boxes match the earlier series: a detailed window box with the Lord of the Rings logo, a movie image of Gandalf, Frodo and Sauron, and the other figures in the line pictured on the back.

Series 3

• Aragorn: the Ranger known as Strider and heir of Isildur, about 7 inches tall, with detail in his flowing hair, necklace, shirt ties, wrist gauntlets, two sheaths and long coat. Includes a flaming torch, his ranger sword, a dagger and Andúril, plus Sauron's left arm and leg.
• Moria Orc: about 6 inches tall, with a detailed painted face, chains, and jagged metallic knee and shin guards. Includes a stone-carved sword, a spear, an alternate helmeted head and removable shoulder armor for customizing different orcs, plus Sauron's six-bladed iron war mace.

Both figures have 16 points of articulation: head, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists, waist, legs, knees and ankles.

Building Sauron

Collect Series 1 through 3 to assemble the Dark Lord: the right arm and leg from Legolas, the head from Gimli, the torso from Frodo, the midsection from the Nazgûl, the left arm and leg from Aragorn and the mace from the Moria Orc. Sauron usually appears as the disembodied Eye, but here he's in full form, standing 13 inches tall in detailed black iron armor with his cape and the One Ring on his finger.
